Netflix Raises Prices in Austria Across All Plans

Streaming giant Netflix has increased monthly subscription fees across all available tiers in Austria, effective Friday, September 4, 2026. The move represents the platform’s first local price adjustment in nearly two and a half years, following its previous rate change in April 2024.

Every plan offered on the Austrian market has increased by exactly €2 per month, translating to an additional annual expenditure of €24 per subscriber household regardless of tier level.

Breakdown of Updated Austrian Tiers

The updated pricing structure applies immediately to new sign-ups, while existing customers are set to receive notification emails ahead of their next billing cycle:

  • Basic Plan: Increases from €8.99 to €10.99 per month (a ~22% jump). This ad-free legacy plan crosses the €10 threshold for the first time in Austria.
  • Standard Plan: Increases from €13.99 to €15.99 per month, offering Full HD streaming on up to two concurrent devices.
  • Premium Plan: Increases from €19.99 to €21.99 per month, providing 4K Ultra HD resolution, spatial audio, and four simultaneous streams.

Unlike neighboring Germany, Austria does not currently offer Netflix’s lower-cost, ad-supported tier. Company representatives expect the advertising-supported subscription model to launch domestically in 2027.

In Germany, where the price adjustment took effect on the same day, the ad-supported Standard option experienced the largest percentage jump, moving from €4.99 to €6.99 per month.

Market Scope & Regulatory Requirements

Industry estimates indicate that approximately 1.6 million active Netflix subscriptions in Austria are impacted by the rate revision. The company cited ongoing investments in content expansion and service enhancements as the rationale behind the pricing update.

The European rollout mirrors earlier rate increases introduced in the United States in late March 2026, aligning with historical deployment schedules where European markets follow North American adjustments within five to six months.

Under consumer protection regulations in Austria and Germany, price increases for existing recurring subscriptions require clear advance notification and affirmative customer consent before new charges can be processed.
