Marco Schwarz Wins World Cup Giant Slalom in Alta Badia

Austrian skier Marco Schwarz claimed a dramatic victory in the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup giant slalom on the famed Gran Risa piste in Alta Badia, breaking Swiss star Marco Odermatt’s long‑standing dominance and marking a triumphant comeback after injury.

The Race

Schwarz delivered two near‑perfect runs, finishing with a combined time of 2:35.02, edging Brazil’s Lucas Pinheiro Braathen by 0.18 seconds. Fellow Austrian Stefan Brennsteiner completed the podium in third place, giving Austria a double celebration.

Odermatt, who had won five of the last six giant slalom races at Alta Badia, finished sixth, 0.82 seconds behind Schwarz.

The victory is Schwarz’s first since December 2023, when he won in Madonna di Campiglio before suffering a serious knee injury in Bormio that sidelined him for much of the following season.
