Armed Home Invasion in Vienna-Ottakring: Police Launch Manhunt for Three Suspects
The Vienna State Criminal Police Office (LKA) is currently investigating a violent armed robbery that occurred in the Ottakring district on Sunday. A 59-year-old woman was targeted in her own home by three masked assailants, sparking a large-scale manhunt that continues into the Epiphany holiday.
The Incident in Ottakring
The robbery took place around midday on Sunday, January 4. According to police reports, the suspects gained entry to the victim’s apartment by forcefully knocking after initially ringing the doorbell. When the 59-year-old resident opened the door, she was immediately confronted by three men. At least one of the suspects was armed with a handgun.
Under the threat of violence, the victim was forced to hand over an undisclosed amount of cash. While the woman was not physically injured during the struggle, she suffered severe psychological shock. Emergency services (Berufsrettung Wien) provided on-site treatment before transporting her to a nearby hospital for observation.
Current Investigation Status
The suspects, described as three men wearing dark clothing and face masks, fled the scene on foot. Despite an immediate large-scale police search involving multiple units, the perpetrators remain at large.
This incident follows a period of heightened security in the city, similar to the intensive manhunt recently concluded in Mistelbach. The LKA’s robbery department is currently analyzing forensic evidence from the scene and reviewing surveillance footage from the surrounding neighborhood.
