Paul Stephen Ello, 73, of Reston, a former associate professor at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service, died May 2 at Reston Hospital Center.
Friends may call May 7, from 9 a.m. until the services at 11 a.m., at Adams-Green Funeral Home in Herndon. Burial will follow at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon.
Mr. Ello was born April 5, 1935, in The Bronx, N.Y., to the late John S. and Lillian Larson Ello. In 1954, after high school, he joined the Air Force, which sent him to the Yale University language school for a year to study Chinese. He served a year in Korea, and then was stationed at March Air Force Base in California until his discharge in 1958.
Mr. Ello graduated with high honors from San Jose University. He earned his master’s degree and doctorate in political science from the University of Iowa.
He was an associate professor at Georgetown University for many years, teaching in the government department and the School of Foreign Service. He later was senior vice president at BDM Inc. until he retired in 2001.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Dorothy Severson Ello; three sons, Stephen Ello, Mark Ello, and Erik Ello; a stepson, Steven; a brother, John V. Ello; a sister, Veronica Ello Grogan; four grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
