Police K-9 wins 'Iron Dog' competition
Fairfax County Police Officer Pfc. Mike Gubesch and his K-9 dog partner named Justice won first place in this year’s Virginia Police Canine Association Iron Dog Competition.
Held this year on May 21 in The Plains, Va., the contest pitted 28 officers and their dogs from West Virginia, Maryland and Virginia for time and score in a 10-event course covering 1.25 miles that tested each canine competitor’s agility, speed, search ability and other skills.
Gubesch and Justice, who was named the champion “Iron Dog,” placed first in the narcotic detection and muzzle work courses. They placed second in the gun battle and apprehension courses. They finished the entire course in 8 minutes and 57 seconds, while the average time was more than 14 minutes. A second team from Fairfax County, Mpo. Mark Dale and his K-9 Niko, also competed.
