Volkswagen jersey deal with DC United a possibility

Herndon-based Volkswagen of America may soon be signing a jersey sponsorship deal with the D.C. United professional soccer team.

According to the Baltimore Business Journal, the deal could be worth as much as $7 million annually, and make Volkswagen the official automotive partner of Major League Soccer for an additional $1 million to $2 million annually.

If these figures are accurate, this could become the largest jersey deal in league history. Herbalife currently has a deal with the LA Galaxy for up to $5 million annually.

“We have not signed at this time, and beyond that we are not commenting for obvious reasons,” said Volkswagen of America spokesman Steve Keyes on Friday.
