Annandale student heads to NASA
Michelle Perez, of Annandale, has been chosen to participate in the 10-week NASA Academy this summer. Perez, a student at Virginia Tech, will conduct lab research and assist with lab projects, learning how NASA centers operate.
"My goal is to become a NASA engineer and work on sending us back to the moon and on to Mars," Perez said in a release.
Local chef wins culinary competition
Led by Chef Eric Mueller of New York State, Barbara Estock, of Fairfax, and her "Wild Card Wednesday" team beat nine teams to win the Iron Chef-style "Slice, Dice and Spice NY" competition.
Scranton University grads
Five local students graduated from Scranton University in Pennsylvania: Patricia K. Adams, of Herndon; Joanie Prins, of Springfield; Sukhvinder Singh, of Vienna; Michelle Gomez, of Burke; and Andrew Healy, of Falls Church.
University of Mary Washington grads
These students graduated from the University of Mary Washington: Emily Beck, Veronica Doody, Kathleen Kaelin, Sean O'Neill, Molly Sheldon and Janice Taylor, all of Burke.

Students named to dean's list

Greenspring presents scholarships
Fourteen county students were presented with scholarships June 25, donated by residents of the Greenspring Retirement Community in Springfield.
Students from area high schools make up the majority of servers in Greenspring's restaurants. The $1,000 annual scholarships are given to the students in thanks of their hard work.
Randolph-Macon Academy grads
These local students graduated from Randolph-Macon Academy: Edward Young Ho Lee, Amandeep Bhuller and Hani Eid, all of Fairfax City; Robert Graves, of Great Falls; and Laura Lee Liming and Jennifer Castor, both of Springfield.
Boston University grads
Eight local students graduated from Boston University: Siobhan Sullivan, Jennifer Rubenstein, Deanna Johnson, Ann Marie Boynton, Christie Kim and Colby Burlingame, all of Springfield; and Amit Narang and Kimberlee Ryan, both of Fairfax Station.
