Giant pharmacies now offering discount generics

Following the lead of national companies like Wal-Mart and Target, the pharmacies at Giant Food stores will now offer discount generic prescriptions.

About 350 of the most commonly filled generic drugs will now be available for $9.99 for up to a 90-day supply for customers using the supermarket's Bonus Card program, according to a company news release issued Wednseday.

The company has also been making an effort to lower prices of health and beauty products to remain competitive with drugstores and discount chains.

We’ve listened to our customers, we know these are products they use every day, and we’ve lowered our prices on these items so they won’t have to go elsewhere to get a great deal,” Andrea Astrachan, consumer advisor for Giant Food, said in a release.
