UOSA pipeline approved

A proposal from the Upper Occoquan Sewage Authority (UOSA) to extend a sewer line through the Cub Run stream valley in the Centreville area has been approved.

The Fairfax County Planning Commission made the vote on June 26 after the Park Authority expressed confidence that UOSA would be sensitive enough to the area's environment, Jim Hart, a planning commissioner, said. It is the nod UOSA needed to construct the new pipeline.

UOSA will expand about 25,000 feet of sewage pipeline through park authority land so they can meet rising demand. When the pipeline was built in the 1970s, it was built to serve a projected 45,000 people but it now serves 108,000 people and is deteriorating fast, according to UOSA officials.
