Hutchinson named vice mayor

On Tuesday, the Herndon Town Council approved a resolution naming Connie Haines Hutchinson as vice mayor for the town for the 2008-10 term.

The resolution naming Hutchinson passed with a vote of 6-0, with Hutchinson abstaining.

Traditionally, the council member who receives the highest number of votes during the general town elections is named to the post of vice mayor; Hutchinson received 1,468 votes during the election on May 6.

“I am honored to assume this position and look forward to working with Mayor DeBenedittis and my colleagues on the council on the many critical issues facing our town,” Hutchinson said.

A Herndon native, Hutchinson is serving her fifth term on the council. She has also served on the town’s Heritage Preservation and Architectural Review Boards and is active in numerous civic organizations. She serves as executive director of the Herndon Dulles Visitors’ Center.
