Football's back

Another season of high school football gets under way this week.

We hope you can find time to attend a high school game. It's a trip back in time. Sure, the kids have different hair and clothing styles, but otherwise it's almost exactly like it was when we were in high school – and playing or sitting in the stands.

The band still struggles with the fight song. The cheerleaders still jump and spin and flip. And a dog runs onto the field.

It's band parents handing out hot dogs. It's the principal trying not to look out of place in a tie. It's tears running down a dad's cheek when his son breaks into the open field.

For a few minutes, there is no war, there is no social class, there is no preppy or jock or geek or nerd. There's just a bleacher full of people rooting for the home team.

There's a seat waiting for you.
