While gas prices have come down off of their devastating peaks of a few months ago, there is no question that secure energy is one of the biggest challenges facing America today and one that promises to be an important election issue this fall. As long as we are dependent on fossil fuels supplied almost exclusively by foreign powers at odds with our national interests, the stability of America's economy will always be in jeopardy. That’s why it is so important to understand that in order to have a strong economy we must turn to renewable energy sources. What we need now is for Congress to stop wasting taxpayer money subsidizing dirty and dangerous oil, coal, and gas and invest in clean renewable solutions like wind, solar and geothermal energy. We have the tools we need to transition our economy to these American-produced energy sources and secure a stable and prosperous future for our children. But that won't be possible without leaders with the foresight and courage to make the commitment. This election year, Judy Feder and Frank Wolf need to start talking about how green energy and economic security go hand in hand.
